The finished product…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

Didn’t look like much of a find when he first picked it up and brought it home…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

From another angle…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

The speaker controls on top seemed to function…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

The frequency range was still operable…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

The back was completely exposed. The record player was missing…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He completely gutted the entire unit…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

You’re out!

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He salvaged some pieces…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

The vintage light bulbs…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He used a chemical stripper to remove the varnish…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

“This was by far the most difficult part. That stuff is toxic and the tiniest splash on my skin burned like crazy. I had to put several coats to scrape everything off.”

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

After stripping, it was time to sand the whole unit down…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He applied a coat of stain and several coats of polyurethane varnish…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He then went over it several times with a high grit sandpaper and steel wool to ensure smoothness…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

He took the drawer on top and added a new bottom, covering it in red felt…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

“I used felt lined wood strips for the bottom and sides and glued them in place. Makes a perfect drawer for wine openers and utensils.”

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

And the outcome…

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

[sociallocker][/sociallocker]

This DIY project is certainly a success!
