To each his own I guess. Different strokes for different folks. These two women rescue retired battery chickens. Yup. They give them a new home, but since they lived in cages throughout their lifetimes, they are incapable of acclimatizing to what are normal weather conditions.
So, Nicola Congdon and her mother Ann from Falmouth from Cornwall, England discovered a novel way to keep them warm – they knit them woolly jumpers. “It’s important to make people aware of the poor conditions the hens live in and the fact that they have no feathers when they are retired,” says Nicola.
“We’ve been knitting chicken jumpers for the last six months”
“We are doing it for the ex-battery hens for when they come out of their poor conditions for them to put on in the cold weather”
Apparently this is catching on. They have had inquiries from Canada and elsewhere. Proceeds go to an AIDS orphanage in S.A.
And why not???
