Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen will not attend the annual New Year’s Day church service at Sandringham today.
It would appear that the Queen’s current bout of ill health has not improved over the festive period, despite ongoing bed rest. The Telegraph confirms that the Queen will sadly not be making an appearance at the traditional event due to her ‘heavy cold’ that continues to linger.
Only a few days before Christmas Day, Her Majesty and Prince Philip were both taken ill with the Palace advising they were each suffering from heavy colds, forcing them to delay their travel to their winter resistance in Norfolk.
A Palace spokesperson explained:
Her Majesty The Queen will not attend Sunday worship at Sandringham today.
The Queen does not yet feel ready to attend church as she is still recuperating from a heavy cold.
The Queen has been suffering with the cold for more than a week, but Prince Philip is reported to have “fully recovered” and will be attending the royal service without his wife. Everything is therefore crossed that the Queen makes a full and swift recovery too, so she can enjoy the start of the New Year in much better health.
